HIPAA SUMMIT SUPPORTS NATIONAL CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS MONTH

RUSSAIN HACKERS TARGETING US HOSPITALS AND CLINICS

Russian hackers are targeting U.S. hospitals, clinics and medical centers with cyberattacks intended to hold these facilities' data hostage and demand multimillion-dollar ransoms to unlock it, a plot the federal government called a "credible threat," according to a security executive who listened to the briefing from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. The hackers, who are believed to be based in Moscow and St. Petersburg, have been trading a list of more than 400 hospitals to target, a source said, and several hospitals have reported cyberattacks in recent days, though it's unclear whether they were part of the coordinated attacks.
