MEDX|Oncology CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

Conference Chairman, Gary I. Cohen, MD, Emeritus Director of the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, along with an expert panel of leading oncologists, will discuss integration of evidence-based medicine and quality of care, as well as update physicians on current evidence-based management of multiple tumor types. Participants will also examine the integration of value-based patient care through the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act's (MACRA) Oncology Care Model (OCM) payment model and explore real-life, practical experiences of clinicians who have implemented the model.

MEDX|Oncology is a 2-day, multi-topic CME/CPE/CNE conference designed for the oncology care team including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, nurse navigators, and pharmacists who work in an oncology practice setting.

MEDX|Oncology conference has been developed to provide oncology treatment teams with practice and system-based strategies to narrow the widening gap between evidence-based treatment recommendations, current practice patterns, and reimbursement requirements.

CONFERENCE LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this 2-day conference, participants should be able to demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Incorporate treatment pathways and quality measures to ensure patients receive guideline-consistent care
  2. Evaluate the sequential and combination administration of chemotherapy and targeted agents to optimize patient survival
  3. Discuss current recommendations for diagnostic testing across multiple tumor types to facilitate treatment selection
  4. Assess the safety and efficacy of currently approved and emerging agents for primary and subsequent management of multiple tumor types with attention to cost/benefit and toxicity considerations
  5. Employ communication strategies and resources to increase patient access and engagement

The standard of care for cancer treatment is being redefined as healthcare delivery undergoes total reform, medical knowledge continues to advance rapidly, and therapeutic options for many tumor types have multiplied. As the cultural shift towards value-based practice propels forward, instigated by the National Quality Strategy, new payment models have been introduced to align quality and value with reimbursement. Achievement of high-quality practice requires decision-making consistent with clinical guidelines, quality measures, and emerging safety and efficacy data.
